Belva Lockwood Book Discussion

NWHM Co-Hosts Book Discussion About Trail-Blazing Lawyer Belva Lockwood

“I cannot vote, but I can be voted for.”
Belva Lockwood, to a reporter during her Presidential campaign in 1884

Along with the National Women’s Law Center and the George Washington University Women’s Studies Program, NWHM co-sponsored a standing-room-only book launch panel discussion and reception at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars on March 22, 2007. Author Jill Norgren discussed her new book, Belva Lockwood: The Woman Who Would be President, with an introduction by Associate Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Additional commentary was provided by the Honorable John Ferren, Senior Judge, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and former Wilson Center Fellow; and Wendy Williams, Professor of Law, Georgetown Law Center.

NWHM was well-represented, with President Susan Jollie, Board Members Ann Stone and Joan Wages, and Coalition Liaison Becky Schergens in attendance. Susan Jollie and Ann Stone discussed the museum and the pros and cons of online historical research during the question and answer period following the formal remarks.
