NWHM President’s Advisory Council member and Houston Native, Carey C. Shuart hosted a reception in honor of Museum President, Joan Wages. A group of illustrious women, including Ellen Ochoa, the Deputy Director of the Johnson Space Center, Sarah Weddington, who argued Roe v. Wade in front of the Supreme Court, Anne Tucker, world renowned photographer and curator, and Peggy Smith, Director of Women’s Studies at UH, gathered at the Houston Country Club to learn about the Museum and the new Houston Regional Council.
NWHM is forming Regional Councils around the country that support the Museum through fundraising. Council’s will have the opportunity to work with scholars and curators to assist in gathering pertinent historical information (in the form of oral histories, artifacts, online exhibits, etc.) of women from their region—whose stories and contributions can be incorporated as the Museum scholars deem appropriate within the content of the Museum itself. The next Regional Council event is in New Brunswick, New Jersey on March 31st.
