Dear __________:

A bill, The National Women's History Museum Act, that would honor the women of this nation has been passed in the House of Representatives and has been introduced in the Senate as S. 2129. It will provide a vacant lot for use by the National Women's History Museum (NWHM). I urge you to co-sponsor this important legislation and vote in support of its passage. Few of us know much about women's history - little is taught in the classroom and little is found in public places such as museums or memorials. Men have hundreds of years of their history to reflect upon and use for inspiration. Women do not! You can help this change by co-sponsoring The National Women's History Museum Act.

The National Women's History Museum Act would allow NWHM to purchase the lot at 12th Street SW and Independence Avenue SW in Washington, DC for the purpose of building a museum in appreciation of women's many accomplishments and contributions to our nation. The bill was introduced with bi-partisan support. Committees in the House and Senate have reviewed this bill because it was previously introduced providing this lot to the National Health Museum. The Health Museum announced in June 2008 that it was moving to Atlanta, GA, thus freeing up the lot for the National Women's History Museum.

This legislation allows NWHM to purchase the Independence Avenue SW lot at fair market value and provides that NWHM will privately fund all construction costs for building the Museum. The property must be transferred to NWHM within three years and the building phase must begin within five years, similar to requirements Congress has placed on other museums.

Washington, DC is a city of symbols that reflect what we, as a nation, honor. I support this Museum's efforts to ensure that women are recognized in a prestigious place in our Capital. I strongly urge you to help make this happen.

Please co-sponsor and support The National Women's History Museum Act (S. 2129) that will provide a permanent home to the National Women's History Museum.

Sincerely,
