The Chinese Opera House in New York City (note sign on the right). Chinese Opera, followed the Chinese to America in the 1850s, and was one of the few forms of public entertainment available to Chinese women. Opera theaters were built in most Chinatowns and Chinese women would attend regularly. By 1909, Chinese women also began to perform in operas.
