Women at Home and in the Community

Women volunteered to serve as drivers both for the Red Cross and a number of local volunteer organizations. Drivers transported the sick and wounded, out of town military and government personnel, and delivered supplies at their own expense.

Below, left a woman driver is shown contributing to the war effort in a Hudson Motor Car Ad. Below, center, a Chesterfield advertisement features a woman motorcycle courier. Below, right a letter of reappointment to the American Red Cross Motor Corps. Click on images.
